Divorce

The end of a marriage can be one of the most stressful times in life. Your JCP benefits provide some resources to get you through the process.

Help is Available

Need legal representation?

If you are enrolled in the JCP Legal ServicePlan, you can contact an attorney with your questions or secure legal representation to assist you with divorce proceedings.

Support

Get support during difficult times.

You and your covered dependents can receive free, confidential assistance from licensed counselors who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also receive up to three free in-person visits per issue, per year. If you need more care and are enrolled in a JCP medical plan, additional counseling may be available to you.

Navigate Changes with Care

Revising your benefits.

Divorce brings about many changes, and updating your employee benefits should be a crucial part of your transition process. From healthcare to retirement plans, here's what you need to consider to ensure your benefits align with your new life circumstances. Take action promptly—timing is critical.

Update your health and welfare policies.

Depending on your need, you can enroll in coverage, remove your spouse, and/or add your dependents to your JCP health and welfare coverage. You have 60 days from the action date specified in your divorce decree to make the change.

Update your beneficiaries.

Review your life insurance, AD&D insurance, and your 401(k) plans to update your beneficiary designations, if needed. Consider seeking legal counsel before designating a minor as a beneficiary due to limitations on payouts of life and AD&D policies to minors.
